[ NOTES ]
Hi! I'm Min, and as you are probably aware, I play Seth Clearwater of Twilight not-so-fame. I just wanted to take a second and make a couple of notes about Seth and the Quileute Nation and how I plan to make the two jive in my RP.
By this point, most people are probably aware that Stephenie Meyer's interpretation of Quileute legends (particularly the wolf legends) are... loose, at best. In a lot of ways, they don't jive with existing Quileute legends that have been passed down through the tribe for generations. And this puts me in the kind of awkward position of having to decide whether I want to be true to the real Quileute traditions, or if I want to play what Stephenie Meyer has written.
The answer is both! I really hope that I can come to a happy medium between the two, and mesh Stephenie Meyer's re-appropriated legends with what the actual Quileute Nation has to say about the culture and legends. I think that Quileute culture (and all native culture) comes from a really rich, complex tradition of storytelling and hospitality and it would be a complete shame to scratch that out in the face of some fictional retellings. Seth is a fictional character, but he's a fictional character who is a member of a real, existing native tribe, and I hope to do as much justice to the real Quileute tribe as I do to the Twilight canon.
That said, I know it won't be perfect. Please, if you see something that you think has been done incorrectly or would like to correct some incorrect knowledge/assumption about Quileute (or native) culture, please feel free to use my HMD to voice your concerns! Anon is on and IP logging is off, but I promise that I won't bite if you crit me.
